Click the ‘New song’ option in the file menu.
Drag the M files that are in your Stems folder into an open spot on the Presonus window.
Your window should look like this.
Adjust your fader levels to the chart above. Notice the Master Output is -8db. This will change in the next lesson on Mastering.
Add in all the FX Pluggins into the Insert boxes from the chart above.
+Notice that the Rhythm instruments where turned down (-3db(70%)) to make room for the guitar solo. The guitar solo is the same volume that the rhythm guitar was throughout the rest of the track. Instead of making the solo louder than everything else, we turn down the rhythm instruments to make room for the solo. If you turn down the drums and bass too, it sounds awful. Rhythm instruments include guitars, keyboards, horns, etc…..
You may not have to turn down the rhythm instruments, if the solo is a single track, in the center of the mix. I double tracked all my rhythm and lead guitar tracks. That is why I have to turn the rhythm instruments down, to make room for the solos. I would try it both ways on every song. I still think it is a bad idea to turn the solos up louder than the other instruments.
