Compressor for Drums
We are going to focus on the compressor effect on our first track, the drums. I muted or turned off all of the other tracks. click on the button with the circle around it.
scroll down until you see the fat channel effect.
Drag and drop the fat channel icon unto the insert portion of the Drum track.

Do this for the drums and bass track too. Preset Comp1

Use this plugin preset for both the rhythm and lead guitars. Preset Comp2
Compressor Mix –
This mix is for compression for rguitar, lguitar, bass, and drums. It isn’t for the acoustic guitar, but feel free to experiment with compression settings on your own.
It looks like it always saves your song to the [C:\HP\….\Better Time\Mixdown] folder. If it doesn’t do that then click on the 3 dots and click [desktop] and click on the [home] icon. The mixdown folder is in one of the file folders.
click [OK]
- Window opens up
- Right Click on [Better Time Comp.WAV]
- Select [Open With Cool Edit 2000]
Normalize and convert to mp3 & WAV files.

I used a program called Cool Edit 2000 to show you the five wave files we are working with and Normalize the audio with it. You can also normalize the audio with PreSonus Studio One like I showed you at the beginning of chapter 8 – Mixing. You can also use the free program Audacity that I talked about in the Preface.
PreSonus Sound Editor View
- Select [File] [New Song]
- Drag the file you want to see from the Stems folder to the track view in Studio One.
- Select [View] [Editor]
- Click on file in the track View.

Cool Edit 2000 Audio Views
Cool Edit 2000 was designed by a company called Syntrillium. They sold the company to Adobe around 25 years ago, you can’t buy it anymore. Let me know if you want to talk about it.
