Phasers or phase shifters are modulation effects. They produce a second, identical, signal that moves in and out of phase with the original, unaltered, signal. This creates notch filters that move up and down the frequency spectrum (figure 65). The univibe was an early, modified phaser. Jimi Hendrix used one to simulate the sound of a Leslie rotary speaker system.
